Foreign minister, Japanese Mideast peace envoy discuss peacemaking efforts.

Amman, (Petra) -- Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh on Wednesday discussed with Japanese Mideast Peace Envoy Yutaka Limura, bilateral ties and efforts underway to start direct Palestinian-Israeli peace negotiations.

Judeh briefed the Japanese official on His Majesty King Abdullah II''s endeavors and contacts with world powers to press for a comprehensive peace in the Middle East and bring about an independent Palestinian state on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The minister said Japan could play a pivotal role in the peace process, noting that Jordan and Japan maintain solid ties in various domains.

Yutaka expressed his country''s appreciation for King Abdullah''s efforts to bring about stability and peace to the Middle East.
