National dialogue on renewable energy opens in Amman.

Amman, (Petra)--Specialists started on Monday a national dialogue on renewable energy and investment opportunities in the Kingdom.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Khalid Irani said in remarks at the opening ceremony that the cabinet had allocated JD20 million to support the renewable energy and energy efficiency fund, adding measures are underway to draw up mechanisms for the fund's work.

He said the fund, which was established according to the renewable energy law and approved recently will reduce cost of energy for consumers and support renewable energy projects.

"Jordan imports 96 percent of its needs from energy for comprehensive development in the economic and social fields, Irani added.

The minister stressed the importance of developing renewable energy resources as one of the major issues, noting the issue of developing renewable energy technology became one of the basic components to achieve energy supply security.

During the two-day gathering, which is organized by the Jordan Society for Renewable Energy, participants will discuss energy security, its impact on national security and investment opportunities in this domain.
