Amman, April 20 (Petra)--Senate President Zeid Rifai received today a delegation from the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL), currently on a visit to the Kingdom upon an invitation from the Jordanian Young Economists Society.

Rifai hailed Jordanian-US ties and stressed the importance of the US's role in bringing about peace and stability in the Middle East. "Peace in the region will not be achieved without solving the Arab-Israeli conflict and establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital," he said.

Rifai highlighted efforts exerted by Jordan under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II to achieve comprehensive development despite the political situation in the region, adding achieving peace and stability was the main challenge facing the Middle East.

The senate president expressed Jordan's rejection of all forms of terrorism and said the Amman Message, which was launched by His Majesty King Abdullah, affirmed Islam's rejection of violence and extremism and called for interfaith and cultural dialogue.

Speaker of the Lower House of Representatives Abdul Hadi Majali also discussed with the delegation the latest developments in the region.

Majali said arriving at a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue that leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state was the only way to end all conflicts in the region and bring about peace and stability.

"Jordan, under His Majesty's leadership affirms that the Palestinian issue is the core of conflict in the region and it is the central issue for the kingdom and the Arab nation," Majali added.

The speaker also reviewed the national reform march led by His Majesty in all fields as well as Jordan's parliamentary life.

Members of the delegation valued Jordan's role in the region as well as its relentless efforts to bring about peace in the region.

The ACYPL was formed in 1966 as a non-profit bipartisan educational exchange organization to enhance mutual understanding of political systems, foreign cultures, and ideologies among emerging American and foreign political leaders.
