Amman, (Petra)-His Majesty King Abdullah, the Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF), on Monday opened the North Gendarmerie Command premises in Irbid governorate.

On his arrival, the King was welcomed by Director General of the Gendarmerie Department Maj. Gen., Hussein Hawatmeh and high-ranking officers.

The King toured the new installations, which comprise the headquarters of the 16th Gendarmerie Battalion Command, training yards, operations rooms, a mosque, a sports hall, and a number of logistics services buildings.

The King discussed with Maj. Gen. Hawatmeh security and organization-driven issues related to the Gendarmerie forces.

The King listened to a briefing on the Gendarmerie's modernization, development, and security openness policy, which plays a key role in achieving its strategy in upholding security for citizens and residents across the country.

The King also attended a training day for the Gendarmerie personnel to get reassured on their fitness and operational preparedness, a force that has long been recognized for their capacity to respond to normal and contingent security events with high professionalism, promptness and alacrity.

In this context, His Majesty lauded the Gendarmerie's advanced level in the training and armament fields and commended their high morale.

This project comes in light of the Gendarmerie's strategy (2015-2020) to keep in pace with urban expansion and to bolster its field performance to carry out its duties within the framework of the ambitious decentralization scheme and to provide an effective security umbrella for all inhabited areas and tourism and economic installations across the country.
